Psychometric properties of the Cognitive Appraisal Inventory for Patients with Chronic Pain in Mexican population

Introduction. Cognitive assessment is the process whereby individuals assess effect an adverse circumstance has on their well-being (primary assessment) and ability to cope with it (secondary assessment), which closely related emotional behavioral response they show as a result. Objective. To determine validity internal consistency of Spanish version Assessment Inventory (CAI) for patients chronic pain Mexican population. Method. A total 191 adults completed CAI, well self-report measures disability, daily activities, anxiety, depression. Results. The confirmatory factor analysis each type primary cognitive included in CAI yielded models satisfactory goodness fit Cronbach’s α indices (loss/damage: CMIN/DF = 1.132, NFI .935, CFI .992, AGFI .939, SRMR .046, RMSEA .026, .73; threat: .81; challenge: 1.567, .977, .926, .044, .055, .86). assessments loss/harm threat were positively associated degree depression, negatively performance activities. opposite occurred challenge. Discussion conclusion. valid, quick, easy, reliable tool evaluating pain, construct physical disability suffering this experience, may be modified through brief interventions.
